Meet Kumar, our VP Member Operations India
We are launching Tide in India as our first step to expand internationally! We are building a fantastic team there and wanted to introduce you to them! Here is Kumar, our VP of Member Operations.
👋 Hey Kumar, great to chat with you today! Could you please introduce yourself?
Hello! My name is Kumar Shekhar, I am the VP of Member Operations in India.
Tell us more about what you were doing before joining Tide a year ago
I have spent 16 years working across Non-Bank Financial Companies and Fintechs in various domains like risk operations, collections, onboarding, chargeback and dispute management as well as fraud & risk management.
Before Tide, I was managing and leading onboarding/ KYC, dispute management, transaction monitoring, fraud management and merchant risk operation for another Fintech company. I helped them achieve the lowest loss (fraud)/ sales ratio and automated their dispute management system bringing efficiency and effectiveness. I also worked on optimising their transaction monitoring rule which led to higher success rate especially for cross-border transactions.
You joined Tide as our VP of Member Operations in India, what’s the part of your role that you prefer?
The best part: no two days are the same.
It’s so fast-paced, everything from agility to developing a digital first solution, building best in class services across onboarding, operations, services and keeping members safe.
What’s the most interesting challenge you’ve come across since you joined?
What’s great about Tide is, there is a new challenge every day that keeps you on your toes; every day there is a new learning. We are working hard to launch a great product for Indian small business owners that will solve many of their pain points, meaning they can get back to doing what they love whilst saving time and money.
Here are some of the interesting things that I have been working on ⬇️
- Develop Operation (KYC, Member support & Ongoing monitoring) which is sustainable and scalable, thus providing seamless experience to members
- Build a team who are passionate about members and are data driven
- Work closely with product/ Tech/ R&C to build the best product
- Explore, identify and collaborate on external partnerships
How do you turn things around when you’re having a bad day?
Simple! I take a small break, indulge in an activity that helps me relax and that’s it! I get back to work with the same passion and energy 😊
What’s the best thing about working at Tide?
Open culture, focus on product innovation and absolutely zero politics!
What advice would you give someone looking for a role in Fintech?
I think it’s the most exciting time to be in the Fintech space, not only in India but across the globe. One must read about Fintech players and product solutions they are offering and learn/ upskill as required, and be ready to step out of their comfort zone. I would also suggest finding a mentor if possible.
What are you most excited to see Tide build this year?
Launching our platform into many more countries, customising the features to make business owners’ journeys and experience seamless globally.
Giving them the app they’ve been waiting for, packed with all the tools they need to easily manage their business admin 😊
When you’re not at Tide, what’s your favourite thing to do?
I spend time with family, especially my twin daughters, Cherry and Berry and I play cricket 🏏 which keeps me active 😊!
