Meet Tiago, our Head of Mobile Engineering
👋 Hi Tiago, great to chat to you today! Could you please introduce yourself in a sentence?
Olá, I am Tiago! Originally from Brazil, I have been living in the UK for 6 years. I am Head of Mobile Engineering at Tide which means I make beautiful apps and I build happy teams.
You joined the team in January 2019, how would you describe your journey at Tide in three words?
Learn. Build. Repeat.
In these past 3 years, what’s the most interesting challenge you’ve come across?
Scaling a team of brilliant engineers has been, for sure, the most exciting challenge. We’re now operating in three different locations, and we are expanding even further. Another exciting challenge has been moving to Flutter, our framework of choice in mobile.
These are some fantastic achievements! What’s something that happened recently at Tide that made you smile?
It’s about to happen! Tide is the main sponsor of the Flutter Global Summit 21 taking place this week, on 8th and 9th December. I’m really excited to attend with our entire team! If you join the event, make sure to tune into our live streams to hear Tideans explain how we use Flutter ☺️
What’s your favourite Tide memory so far?
The day we went back to the (new) office, after one year working fully remote. It was really cool to see people again in person and meet new Tideans.
Talking about Tideans, for any engineers looking to apply for a role at Tide – why do you think they should join the team?
Tide is a place where people make friends (I’ve heard some even met their soulmates 😍) that care about your wellbeing and growth. It’s also a safe space for experimentation, learning from your mistakes and celebrating your achievements together. On top of that, there’s a high commitment for doing what’s right for our members (users), whilst ensuring quality and a modern tech stack.
And last but not least, we’re on an exciting path to become one of the most recognised engineering teams in the Fintech space, globally.
Oh, and one last thing before you go! When you’re not at Tide, what’s your favourite thing to do?
When I’m not writing technical cookbooks, I’m actually following real cookbooks. I love cooking – almost as much as eating! 😋
