How to use Tap to Pay on iPhone

  1. Open the Tide app on your iPhone. Go to the ‘Get Paid’ tab, followed by ‘Tap to Pay on iPhone’, and enter the payment amount.

  2. Present your iPhone to your customer.

  3. Your customer holds their card horizontally, or their device at the top of your iPhone, over the contactless symbol.

  4. When you see the ‘Done’ tick, the card read is complete and the transaction is being processed.

Tap to Pay on iPhone requires a supported payment app and the latest version of iOS. Update to the latest version by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Tap Download and Install. Some contactless cards may not be accepted by your payment app. Transaction limits may apply. The Contactless Symbol is a trademark owned by and used with permission of EMVCo, LLC. Tap to Pay on iPhone FAQs

We’ve partnered with Adyen to facilitate the collection and processing of payments from your customers when you use Tap to Pay on iPhone. When customers pay with Tap to Pay on iPhone, Adyen will hold the money in a payment processing account which we refer to as ‘Merchant Account’. Adyen uses the Merchant Account to collect and record the payments received by your customers via Tap to Pay on iPhone before the funds are processed by Adyen and sent to your Tide Business Account. Adyen’s T&Cs apply to the Merchant Account and the processing of funds in it.

With Tap to Pay on iPhone and your Tide app, you can accept in-person contactless payments with only an iPhone - from physical debit and credit cards, to all digital wallets. You’ll need no additional devices.

The feature is currently only available to Tide members who have iPhone XS or later, and are using the latest iOS.

As part of our efforts to prevent fraud and protect our members and community, there might be limitations about who can sign up for Tap to Pay on iPhone with Tide. Access to this service may be limited due to factors like the nature of your business, or region of operation. If you're eligible for Tap to Pay on iPhone, you'll see it in your Tide app, by going to 'Payments' > 'Get Paid'.

To collect a payment:

1. Open the Tide app on your iPhone and tap ‘Get Paid’ > ‘Tap to Pay on iPhone’. Enter the payment amount and description > ‘Take a payment’.

2. Present your iPhone to the customer.

3. Your customer holds their card or device horizontally, at the top of your iPhone, and over the contactless symbol for a few seconds.

4. When you see the Done tick, the card read is complete and the transaction is being processed.

You can view your Tap to Pay on iPhone transactions in the app. Go to the ‘Get Paid’ menu > ‘Settlements’ > ‘Settlements’ tab. But remember, Tap to Pay on iPhone transactions cannot be processed offline.

You will receive your Tap to Pay on iPhone payments into your Tide business account within 3 business days.

You'll pay a fee* of 1.65% for each transaction - we won’t charge you any initial or monthly fees. This includes both domestic and international payments.

You can accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express contactless cards from UK or foreign issuers, but all transactions and settlements will be in GBP.
