When that screen appears, Tap to Pay on iPhone is designed to prevent apps in the background from reading sensors that could give away any part of the PIN. PIN entry will be required if a transaction exceeds the UK standard limit for individual contactless payments of £100, or because the customer has reached the maximum number of consecutive contactless payments with their card.
Some banks and card issuers, especially those that use the Visa card network, have limitations on the use of PIN entry for transactions over £100. If a transaction over £100 is declined, it may be due to this limitation set by your customer’s bank. You can ask your customer to use a different card or follow the instructions in the app for alternative payment methods.
