Your carbon emissions estimates are based on general data and industry averages. They provide a useful point of reference, but may not reflect the actual carbon footprint of every transaction.
We don't know exactly what was bought as part of a payment. We estimate your carbon footprint, based on the categories of your transactions.
Here's how it works:
Groceries - based on the environmental impact of a typical basket of groceries in your country, considering manufacturing, packaging, and transportation.
Fuel purchases - the quantity of fuel is used to precisely calculate the related emissions.
General Stores (i.e., Amazon): for general stores or online retailers like Amazon, we use a weighted basket of goods approach.
These estimates are broad but typically represent a small part of your total carbon footprint.
Categorising transactions by merchant type means we provide a simple way to understand and reduce your carbon footprint based on your spending patterns.
You can help to improve your reports
To get results, ‘Carbon Footprints’ automatically assigns categories to your transactions. To make better estimates, it’s best for you to manually add the most appropriate category to each payment. You can do this in the Tide app:
Tap ‘Payments’ > ‘Transactions’ > select a transaction and choose a category.
You can find tutorials, guides and support, to help you make the most out of ‘Carbon Footprints’, in the ‘Help’ section of the app.
