Transactions that require PIN entry will automatically prompt a PIN entry screen when using Tap to Pay on iPhone. When that screen appears, Tap to Pay on iPhone is designed to prevent apps in the background from reading sensors that could give away any part of the PIN.
When a payment is processed, Tap to Pay on iPhone is designed to prevent all photo, video, screenshot, and screen-recording features on the merchant’s iPhone from capturing a customer’s card number or PIN information.
Important:
PIN entry will be required if a transaction exceeds the UK standard limit for individual contactless payments of £100, or because the customer has reached the maximum number of consecutive contactless payments with their card.
Some banks and card issuers, especially those that use the Visa card network, have limitations on the use of PIN entry for transactions over £100. If a transaction over £100 is declined, it may be due to this limitation set by your customer’s bank. You can ask your customer to use a different card or follow the instructions in the app for alternative payment methods.Important: From 19 September 2024, Free plan members will be charged a fee of 1.75 % of the transaction amount, for card payments or ATM withdrawals in foreign currencies. See how these fees are calculated here. Smart, Pro and Max plan members will not be charged this fee.
Payments made with digital wallets won’t require a PIN code authorisation, regardless of the transaction amount.
